Criticism of the Criticism of Game Design from IGN.com
StoneCypher picks apart the orignal IGN article. For the most part, I agree with StoneCypher's conclusion that there are a lot of interesting non-mainstream games out there which major game magazines tend to overlook.

I don't agree with his notion that game reviewers are completely at fault for the state of the game industry.

That "only the big guys are given attention" problem can be found everywhere: TV, Movies, Books, Comic Books, Music, et al. I can't fully blame the reviewers for that.

Movies have their Sundance Festival set up by R. Redford. Indy Comics are starting to get semi-mainstream press (like Derek Kim on NPR) and their own conventions.

The point is all of this is market driven.

Some things catch on.

Some don't.

Yet.
