Reason Magazine - In Search of the Average American interviews Sarah Igo (a friend from Middle(!) and High school) who authored a book (" The Averaged American: Surveys, Citizens, and the Making of a Mass Public " last year in 2007) about how surveys have pushed an image of Americans into the gestalt of the American Consciousness.
The book is now out (April 15th, 2008) in Paperback.
It is funny as I read another book about the manipulation of statistics to control our perception of reality.
