Dwarf Fortress is a completely ASCII visualized game with a deceptively rich game AI mechanic (more akin to a Sims/SimCity than a Rogue) that strives to have the denizens of this game world have their stories and like in real-life, "stories" (AKA lives) collide and make more stories.
There are scans of a magazine article on it and one phrase captured it for me... "Dwarf Fortress visual shorthand and arcane inputs are straight out of the Matrix."
